Standards Council
The Terms of Reference and criteria for membership of the EHFA Standards Council were approved by EHFA Annual General Meeting in Essen on 10 April 2008, and are set out below.
The Terms of Reference are to show to the European industry that there is a transparent criteria and procedures related to this critical area of work.
Aim
1. To be an independent body able to provide strategic advice, guidance and direction to EHFA, in relation to standards for People, Programmes and Places across the Exercise and Fitness sector.
Functions
2. To monitor the developments across and outside the industry to ensure that our standards are fit for purpose and up to date.
3. To develop and monitor a work programme for the Technical Experts Group (TEG) in terms of standards development.
4. To ensure the development of the European Register of Exercise Professionals (EREPS) is in line with the standards process.
5. To oversee the EHFA Accreditation Process and the Common Assessment Strategy.
Membership
6. The members will comprise of key stakeholders from the Exercise and Fitness sector. The Council will strive to obtain a cultural mix of members from across the geographic boarders of Europe.
7. The Standards Council should strive not have more that two elected representatives from any one country or commission.
8. Membership will be drawn from the EHFA Working Groups including:
- Employers
- Employees
- Training Providers - VET and HE
- Research - Labour market and Scientific
- Accreditation Bodies
- Suppliers
- EU Affairs
9. Chairs of the all Working Groups of EHFA will have a seat on the Council by right and an additional representative from each EHFA Working Group should be elected following formal nominations and elections by the EHFA membership. Co-opted members can be recommended by the EHFA Board. Representatives will serve for two years but may be re-elected.
10. If a member is absent from three meetings in any one year they will loose their place on the group.
11. If a member is unable to attend a replacement is not permitted without the approval of the Chair.
12. The Chair should be independent and shall be appointed by the EHFA President with agreement from the EHFA Board and membership and should be exempt from the two representatives per country rule.
13. The Standards Council may co-opt individuals where specific expertise is required and not already covered by Council members.
Quorum
14. The Quorum shall be one third of the agreed full membership of the Standards Council.
Frequency of Meetings
15. The Standards Council shall meet a minimum of four times per year at the discretion of the Chairman. The meetings may be face to face or virtual.
Declaration of Interests
16. All members shall abide by EHFA rules in relation to private interest and possible conflict of interest, as described in the EHFA Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreement. All potential conflicts should be recorded at the start of each meeting.
Powers and Duties
17. The Standards Council will have executive authority to develop and implement standards.
18. The minutes of, or a report from, each of The Standards Council meetings shall be available to the members within one week of the meeting.
