EHFA Board

EHFA was governed by a board elected by its members at the annual general assembly. Directors served in a personal capacity, not as delegates of the organisations they worked for, and the board as a whole carried the association's legal and financial responsibility.

What the board did

  • Set the association's annual programme and budget, and report both to the general assembly.
  • Appoint and oversee the executive and the secretariat.
  • Admit members in the categories the statutes defined.
  • Represent the association to the European institutions and to other sector bodies.
  • Receive and act on the reports of the Standards Council and the Scientific Advisory Board.

The board met several times a year, with an executive committee handling business between meetings. Its composition changed at each annual general assembly, and the association published the resulting board list each year - the 2011 list and those before it are recorded in the association's own papers.

President and officers

The president chaired the board and the general assembly and acted as the association's principal public representative. The president's annual letters to members, collected on the From the President page, set out the association's position each year. A treasurer and other officers were elected alongside the president.

Board membership drew on the whole sector rather than on any one part of it: national association officers, operators of large and small facility groups, and representatives of the supplier and education sides. That mix was written into the statutes and was the practical reason the association could hold a standards framework together across markets with very different traditions.
