News

EHFA's news archive holds the association's own record of its work, from the internships it advertised at its Brussels secretariat in 2008 to the industry summit it convened in November 2011. The items on this channel are the general news: notices about the standards work, the EREPS register, the association's EU-funded projects and the sector's engagement with the European institutions.

Two further channels ran alongside it. Events carried the meetings in the association's own programme, and press releases carried the statements it issued to the trade and national media. The three indexes together cover every article the archive holds.

What the news covered

Read in sequence, the items trace a change of subject. The earliest are about the association's own machinery: internships at the secretariat, the annual general assembly, the consultation on Vision 2016. From 2010 the notices turn outwards - the Eurobarometer survey on sport and physical activity, the employer survey in fitness, the growth of low-cost gyms in the UK, the sector's response to the European consultation on VAT, and the adoption of the EQF level 2 standards by the general assembly in April 2011.

That change of subject is the record of an association that had stopped arguing for a framework and started maintaining one. The technical detail behind the notices sits under standards and in the work of the Standards Council; the register they describe is at EREPS, and the newsletter that carried the same material to members between assemblies is at EHFA Update.
