The European Commission's Sport Unit was represented at the EHFA London Summit on 22 and 23 November 2010. The association's report of the event names Jacob Kornbeck of the Sport Unit at DG EAC and records that more than 70 participants attended.

The Commission's presence was the point of the summit. The health and fitness sector had no treaty basis in European policy for most of the association's existence, and the Lisbon Treaty gave the Commission a competence in sport for the first time. The Sport Unit ran the sport programme and the preparatory actions that funded the association's project work, so the contact was a working one rather than a courtesy. A sector that wanted to be treated as part of the health response had to make its case to the officials who could act on it, and it had to do so with evidence.

The summit released the executive summary of Becoming the Hub, the Commission-funded project in which the association had gathered that evidence. The contact continued after the event: the project's final report and recommendations were to be submitted to the Commission in February 2011, and the association's Brussels work on the sector's position ran on into the following year.
