EHFA 2nd European Fitness Forum - Prague, 18 & 19 May 2009

EHFA's second European Fitness Forum met in Prague on 18 and 19 May 2009. The forum was the association's annual gathering of its European membership - operators, national associations, suppliers and educators - and it sat alongside the general assembly and the National Associations Forum in the association's calendar.

The forum was announced on 20 February 2009. It was the second in a series that had begun in Hilversum in the Netherlands in 2008, and the association took the forum to a different country each year.

The forums were where the standards work met the people who had to apply it. A framework drafted by a technical council is a document; a framework that operators and training providers have argued over in the same room is something they have a stake in. The association used the forums to test drafts and to explain decisions that members in different markets were otherwise likely to read as imposed from Brussels.

The Prague meeting fell three months after the association's second EU policy forum in Brussels and a month after the general assembly in Essen, in a year when the standards revision, the EU-funded projects and the register were all running at once. It was the association's largest meeting of the year, and the only one open to the sector rather than to members alone.

The forum series continued with the third forum in Madrid in 2010, and the association's events and summit programme through 2011. See fitness forums for the series as a whole.
